Holiday Hangover? Not This Year!

The holidays are a time for joy, celebration, and (let’s be honest) indulgence. It's also often a challenging time: it’s such a busy time at work, chasing gifts, preparing holiday meals, all the gatherings with lots of alcohol and treats can leave us feeling less than festive the next day...

To help you avoid the dreaded “holiday hangover,” here are a few simple tips:

  1. Stay hydrated: Drink a glass of water between every alcoholic beverage and before meals. Even better: opt for one of the drink swaps I shared last week.

  2. Prioritize protein: Load your plate with turkey, fish, meat or legumes to keep your blood sugar stable.

  3. Mindful indulgence: Enjoy your favorite holiday treat - just do so mindfully and without guilt.

  4. Get moving: A walk after a meal can help digestion, is known to help with blood sugar balance and keep your energy levels up.

  5. Plan ahead: If you know you'll indulge, balance it out with intermittent fasting or healthier meals earlier in the day.

Going a bit deeper into cravings during this time of the year:

You may overeat and beat yourself up for your choices. Try to eat mindfully and ENJOY EVERY BITE and if you take your time and enjoy and chew your food, you’ll feel full naturally. Most importantly: cut yourself some slack!

And if you do have cravings: ask yourself what are you really craving? Connection? A hug? Rest? - if you know what you are really craving, you’ll know how to satisfy that need beyond food.
