Let's Face It: We Can't Be Perfect

That's why I detox ALL the time!

For those who’ve been following me a while, you know I’m a total detox nerd! It’s basically because if I don’t detox all the time, I feel unwell. Now some of that has to do with an accumulation of toxins from the past: pollution, stress, emotional trauma, heavy metals (amalgam fillings, vaccines, personal care products, food, water), pesticides and then mold… On top of that I found out via a genetic test that I have a weak detox function because my body is missing a couple of the enzymes facilitating phase II liver detox where toxins get neutralized. So it means I’m a very slow detoxer - I have a tendency to accumulate toxins and my body needs much more help getting rid of toxins, but also that I need to pay attention to not trying to push things out too quickly as it will just result in a toxin traffic jam and me feeling awful.
So I’ve gone through the process of cleaning up my personal care products, home cleaning products, taking out mercury fillings (although the composite fillings still contain lead), I’m eating mostly organic produce and pay attention to avoiding contaminated fish and industrial meats. I have been gluten and dairy free for about 15 years now. I got a great water filter that even filters hormones and PFAS (to 94%).
And you may think “wow that’s A LOT OF effort”!!! Honestly it doesn't feel that way to me because it’s just been part of my routine for so long.
But what I wanted to talk about today is that we can’t be perfect. This is also what I tell my clients all the time: you can’t go down that rabbit hole and try to avoid all the things. Sadly enough: everything we eat and drink is contaminated with one or the other toxin. Also go back to my recent article on contamination of free-range and organic foods due to water and soil contamination and this article about glyphosate.
And don’t get me wrong, I still recommend to avoid toxins as much as possible for your own sake and also for the environments sake, but it’s just very tiring to constantly worry about what kind of poison you’re ingesting when you’re eating and drinking - it’s also unhealthy and preventing you from LIVING.

So my approach is: make smart choices and detox on a regular basis - ideally at least once per week.
Imagine your body is a trash bin that hasn't been emtpied in a while - you need to take out the trash on a regular basis to avoid that things get messy in the house, right ?!
Fact is: these toxins are impacting our health:
Brain fog + a higher risk of neurodegenerative diseases
Headaches & migraines
Feeling sluggish and fatigued
Weight gain
Bloating and other digestive problems => often acid reflux can come up with high toxicity when the body produces too much histamine which results in acid symptoms
Hormone imbalance: more stress hormone = lower progesterone and likely estrogen dominance because progesterone is too low and low testosterone because your testosterone gets converted to estrogen when inflamed
Muscle pains and aches
I recently ran a 5 day detox challenge. I hope that some of you have used that opportunity to join in and learn some of my favorite detox techniques that you can use every week.
If you missed it, definitely consider my upcoming Spring cleanse - you’ll learn even more detox techniques and we’ll also do a full detox with removing animal proteins and dairy products. And don’t worry, if you follow my recipes and use the supplements I recommend, you won’t be losing your muscle mass… It really is a complete program that has helped many women in the past to eliminate brain fog, irritability, some weight and bloating.

This is what past participants said about the program:
Maeva Heux Mattmann: "I like to enjoy a healthy lifestyle, and I had a tiny bit of overweight from the summer holidays and more to lose. Now I have better skin, no more bloating, new healthy recipes and ingredients, new detox tools & supplements, lost almost 2kg. I would definitely recommend this program because it is complete, with an excellent support during the whole process."
Marinka van Dam: "I've been learning new ways to detoxify and also learning about new recipes. I'm eating more conscious and slowly and feel more clarity and lightness.
I would definitely recommend this program. It gave more awareness about what you eat every day and how you can improve your digestion."
Charmaine Pavloskova: "The spring detox program was pleasantly easy to follow. Marieke guided the participants from start to finish and made it a safe and enjoyable cleansing experience. Besides feeling physically sound, my body is leaner, skin is clearer and I managed to transform our family cuisine to sustainable healthy cooking."
